Every Federal employee, regardless of job title, must be paid a minimum of $15 an hour under a Jan. 21 order from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which will affect nearly 67,000 workers, most of whom work for the Departments of Defense, Agriculture and Veterans Affairs.
The titles covered range from Wildland Firefighters to Custodial Workers in the VA's Medical Centers. As one of his first executive actions upon taking office a year earlier, President Biden had ordered an evaluation of the Federal Government's progress toward paying a “living wage” to its workers.
